LCD Display Using A Multiplexed Method
Sep 29, 2017

LCD Display for the flat thin display device, by a certain number of color or black and white pixels, placed in front of the light source or reflector. LCD display low power consumption, so much favored by engineers, suitable for the use of battery electronic equipment.

Each pixel of the LCD Display consists of a series of liquid crystal molecules suspended between two transparent electrodes (indium tin oxide), and two polarizing filters on the outer sides of the two sides which are perpendicular to each other. If there is no liquid crystal between the electrodes, the light passes through one of the polarizing filters whose polarization direction will be completely perpendicular to the second polarizer and is therefore completely blocked. But if it is rotated by the liquid crystal through the polarization direction of a polarizing filter, it can pass through another polarizing filter. The rotation of the liquid crystal in the direction of polarization of the light can be controlled by the electrostatic field, so as to realize the control of light.

Liquid crystal molecules are highly susceptible to the effects of external electric fields. The addition of a small amount of charge to the transparent electrode of each pixel or sub-pixel generates an electrostatic field, and the molecules of the liquid crystal are induced by the electrostatic field and generate an electrostatic torque, thereby changing the original rotation arrangement of the liquid crystal molecules and thus changing Through the rotation of the light. Change a certain angle so that it can pass through the polarizing filter.

Before the charge is applied to the transparent electrode, the arrangement of the liquid crystal molecules is determined by the arrangement of the electrode surface, and the surface of the chemical substance of the electrode can be used as crystal seed. In the most common TN liquid crystal, the upper and lower electrodes of the liquid crystal are arranged vertically. The liquid crystal molecules are arranged helically, and the light passing through a polarizing filter is rotated in the post-polarization direction of the liquid chip so as to pass through the other polarizing plate. In this process a small part of the light is blocked by the polarizer, from the outside looks gray. When the charge is applied to the transparent electrode, the liquid crystal molecules are arranged almost parallel to the direction of the electric field, so that the direction of polarization of the light passing through a polarizing filter does not rotate, so that the light is completely blocked. At this point the pixel looks black. By controlling the voltage, it is possible to control the degree of twist of the arrangement of the liquid crystal molecules so as to achieve different gradations.

Some LCD monitors turn black under alternating current, and the AC power breaks down the spiral effect of the LCD. When the current is turned off, the LCD will be brightened or transparent. This type of LCD Display is common on laptops and parity LCDs. The other is often used in high-definition LCD Display or large LCD TV on the LCD monitor is in the power off, the LCD Display is opaque state.

In order to save power, the LCD Display adopts the multiplexing method. In the multiplexing mode, the electrode groups at one end are connected together, each group of electrodes is connected to a power source, and the other ends of the electrodes are connected in groups, each connected to the power supply One end, the packet design ensures that each pixel is controlled by a separate power supply, and the electronic device or software that drives the electronic device controls the display of the pixels by controlling the on / off sequence of the power supply.
